No man is an island

Quote:

"No man is an island"
John Donne

Unless you are Will from the movie 'About a Boy' (He actually think the quote's from Jon Bon Jovi).

The story is about the relationship between a guy who just could not grow up and a boy whose too old for his age and is isolated. Previously I never thought a person can live off the world cos his dad wrote a Christmas jingle (That's Will).

Now when someone ask you what are you doing. How many of us can reply:

"I do nothing!"

Interesting how we would react if we are in Will's shoes... hmmm I would really relish the 'challenge' haha

Oh, if you by any chance had the opportunity to catch that movie, look out for his 'interesting' way in time management!!!

Office Life

A quick snap on the office's whiteboard today. Most of them are drawn by my department's fellow programmers, me included... Feel free to decipher the drawings.

Black Memories

I guess those living in Singapore can still vividly recall the recent 'Great Singapore Blackout' which occurred on 29/06/2004. For those who do not know, there was a massive blackout which affects most areas in Singapore for nearly 2 hours.

Why am I saying this? No, I'm not getting stale and running out of things to write. Actually, I stumbled upon this picture below while organizing my photos in my PC.

I can still remember the 'dark' experience. Firstly, there's no lights. Then, all of our modern technology will cease to function (fridge, TV, fan and *glup* no internet!!). The fact that it happened at night makes matters worse. Basically, you are unable to do anything but wait for the power to be back again. So as you can see, I spent those boring times playing with candles (A childhood activity, usually engaged during the Mid-Autumn Festival haha!)

Someone's boring me. I think it's me

To Quote:

Someone's boring me. I think it's me.
Dylan Thomas (1914 - 1953)

I have EXACTLY that kinda feeling during the weekends... Waking up on a Saturday afternoon after an ardous, but thankfully successful payroll run which last till Saturday morning is really not the best way to kick off your weekend.

So,  except for the usual morning gym+swimming session, I basically did nothing and find myself REALLY REALLY boring. Did quite a fair amount of reading as well (comics :P), but I dun have the feeling that I am fully utilising my time.

Well, what a way to end a boring weekend by writing it in your blog hahaha.

90.5 GOLD FM-Your Cabbie's Favourite Choice

Well I guess everyone has taken taxi before. Ever pay attention to the kind of music, or rather the radio station of choice that your cabbie listens to? Chances are, if he's not a Hokkien spouting driver (He's stuck at 95.8FM), its 90.5 GOLD FM.

From my extensive experience in taking taxis, I can certify that many has chosen 90.5FM  to accompany them on those long lonely nights. (For those who do not know, my average frequency is 3 to 4 times/week)

I can certainly understand why as the selection of songs from them really are soothing to the ears. Songs like Ocean Deep, Right Here Waiting or Yesterday  are the ones that brings back the memories of both good and bad. (If you do not know those songs, You and I are obviously born from two different eras. Stop reading this post altogether)

Well, I once heard from someone that says:

"Old songs seems to be nicer than the new ones"

Perhaps only songs that had withstand the test of time can truly proclaim themselves as golden oldies,  or a nicer way to remind yourself that you are not getting any younger!!!!

So next time while you are on the cab, relax and enjoy the nice music from our trusty 90.5 GOLD FM!!!

No Blog Entry == Life's Boring???

si bey sian.... Life's SUCKS!!!!

Anyway, yesterday was supposed to be football night for i-Admin. The I & I guys + Alex + Lance were supposed to go Bishan and have a kick of the ball. Some of us (names confidential) even went for an early light dinner just in case we get hungry later. However disaster struck and we were unable to go...

Alex looked really disappointed. I know he wake up early just to go to gym for workout (He's following a strict exercise/diet routine for the nike real run). Hope we can organize another one soon...

Anyway, after the cancellation I went down to meet Theo Theo for dinner at chomp chomp. The satay bee hoon is good :)

King Arthur == Gladiator Leftover??

I couldn't stop blogging can I haha... I just cannot help but get this thing out of my system before heading dreamland.

I went to watch King Arthur yesterday at cineleisure (old favourite place... you gotta try the seats ;) Right Theo?) I must say its quite a normal movie. Not as bad as how the critics pan it but its neither superb either.. and that bad after taste of a Gladiator hangover!! (Hell the writer, David Franzoni was also writer for Gladiator!!)

Those who still wanna watch it please stop reading and go away!! The movies suffers from a lack of focus and a thin plot. Why the beginning of the movie shows Lancelot and then suddenly switches to a grown up Arthur was one glaring flaw... And the fight scene towards the end was also confusing due to the constantly changing camera angles...

All in all it was still an enjoyable movie for a Saturday evening, especially for a hyper person who still dun wanna go home at 11:15pm and ITS not me!!!

Sunday@Work

I take back those words when I say I dun work on weekends... I just did haha!!! Why I laugh? I dunno, but the weird part is its not really too bad... I think I'm crazy to say that but the truth of my heart says so.

Ok some of the reasons I thought that might explain this is:
  1. I feel bored. Even though I just had gym and swimming session earlier, I feel bo liao by my emptiness of spending useless time when I get home... BUT then again, dun I used to love spending bo liao time to rest and relax?
  2. I feel bad that my application did not perform accordingly, so in a moment of guilt, I went back. BUT, didn't I just gave phone support already and it WAS working fine earlier and was tested before as well?
  3. I am CRAZY

Seems like no. 3 is the most probable deduction of them all...Today I found out a truth while supporting in the office... After looking at how they do their work, I felt my application is not helping to make their life easier... Sad but true. Unable to code something that bears no logic requires another level of design and coding which would take time...Perhaps later....  and later.... and later :P

Well time for a bath and a good night sleep. LeaveAdmin, prepare and fight!!!

Prata@Serangoon

Rafi had this nice little prata stall near Serangoon MRT station (Its in a coffeshop called IMAN, opposite Sunshine Apartments). Ex-Walsh Melbourians please support our good friend here!!

Its been a long long time since I had pratas, or any Indian food. A hearty meal of 2 pieces of pratas, a generous portion of mutton soup and some indian rojak were enough to make this man v happy. In fact Sze Wai could not stop commenting on that mutton soup. She was going:

"Try this! Try This! Its very nice!! You MUST try this!!!"

before I even had time to grab a seat (I was v late and they have already started without me hhmm...).

If only the place is near Lavender, then it would be a good place for dinner... If only there's a car ..... *Evil Grin*

Due to overloading traffic of our Server Terry, there will be no interesting post for today. Please bear with the boring screen.

Our team is working hard around the clock to bring Terry up again. Currently, our strategy is to switch off Terry in the next 30 min

Thank you for your kind understanding. Again our deepest apologies.

Movies in the Rain

Today's lesson to be learned: ALWAYS, ALWAYS be prepared (Thank god I am... almost...)

Today's is a night for fun, love and comedy at the Stella Artois® Starlight Cinema at Fort Canning Hill. Theo Theo and I were going to watch this French Love Comedy Amelie. We came all prepared with straw mat, MacDonald and an umbrella, albeit a small one... (like picnic haha... That's the idea!!!)

Before you know it, it started to drizzle before the movies starts. Actually, it was still fine sharing the small umbrella... until the rain gets REALLY REALLY BIG!!! We have no choice but to abandon our position and seek out a new hiding area.

Thankful we managed to finish the movie and I must say its a nice one, despite heaven throwing in a few surprises. So after a nice HOT shower and HOT tea, I'm prepared to sleep after writing this blog.

Theo Theo, better luck on our next attempt. We try again next year ;)

Airport

Definition of 'Airport' in Terry's dictionary:

air·port Pronunciation Key (ârpôrt, -prt) noun:n
A place of separation and union, sadness and happiness, tears and laughter all under the same place, divided into 2 areas/levels (Departure Hall and Arrival Hall)

Just went to the airport earlier today to send Pauline off with triple J (Jiamin, John and Janet). She's going to Flinder's University in South Australia. Here's wishing her a safe journey and all the best in the future studies ;)

Is it just me or I just feel that there is a significant gulf of difference in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2... T2 seems to be a lot more posh than T1 (and T2 is STILL upgrading), not to mention the mundane decor of T1. Come on man, time for a face lift to live up to your name as the 'NO.1' International Airport!!!

In the Still of the Night...

Date     : 13/07/2004 Tuesday
Time     : 1.55 am
Location: Home (30 min ago, Office)
Project Deadline: 18 days to go ...
Oh yeah... I crave the pressure!!! Bring it on BABY!!!

While I was on my way home in the taxi, the cab uncle suddenly offered me a sweet. With skeptical eyes I asked:

"What's that??" (Obviously its a sweet. Am I blind??)
"The sweet's for you."

replied the cabbie.

2 things came into my mind:
1) Either I'm a friendly chap or
2) I looked damn tired to warrant such a 'gift' from the nice uncle to perk me up

Enough blogging. Time to sleep... Tomorrow's... eeerr... Today's another day, another day to PIAAAA!!! ZZzzz....

(btw, I did accept the sweet, and yes it did perk me up)

Hello World!!!

Typical of a programmer's way of saying 'WELCOME'!!!

Finally started this blog... after putting it off for a long long time. But, here I am feeling bo liao (bored) and lazy, instead of the usual busy weekly routine (I SHOULD be in gym right now!!!)

Hope I can have more bo liao time to keep on blogging...
